Most people looking into a crown already know something is wrong: a cracked tooth, a large filling that is failing, a tooth unprotected after a root canal. What holds them back isn't the crown itself, it's the process. Two appointments weeks apart, a temporary that can pop off in the meantime, and getting numbed twice just to finish the job. At Cromwell Dental Care, Dr. Cromwell, Dr. Conley, and Dr. Kreinbrink use CEREC technology to handle all of it in one visit: digital scan, chairside design, milled from ceramic, and bonded in place before you leave.
The crown fits precisely, matches your surrounding teeth, and begins protecting the tooth right away. Because it's all ceramic with no metal, there's no dark line forming at the gumline over time like you sometimes see with older crown types. If this has been sitting in the back of your mind, the process is no longer the obstacle it used to be.
Ready to stop putting it off? Call our Marysville office at (937) 738-7610 and we'll answer your questions or get you on the schedule.

We get you fully numb before anything else. Then we reshape the tooth to give the crown a clean surface to bond to, removing anything weak or decayed along the way.
No putty trays. A small handheld camera captures a precise 3D image of your tooth and the ones around it, faster and more comfortable with no gagging.
Using the scan, your Cromwell Dental Team designs your crown on screen, matching the shape to your bite and the shade to your surrounding teeth. You can watch the whole thing happen.
The design goes straight to our in-office milling machine, which carves your crown from a solid ceramic block while you wait, usually 15 to 30 minutes.
We try it in, check your bite, make any small adjustments, and bond it permanently in place. You leave with your tooth fully protected, same day.
The biggest win is simple: your tooth gets taken care of today. A crack left alone can spread, and a large cavity can get worse. Handling it in one visit means a manageable problem stays that way. You're also only numbed once, and you skip the temporary crown stage entirely.

Most people who need a crown can have one made the same day. It is usually the right fit if you have:
Plan on about two to three hours from start to finish, a little more if there's decay to clean out before the crown goes on. The part where the machine carves your crown from a ceramic block usually takes 15 to 30 minutes on its own. Most patients bring their phone and use that time to catch up on messages or just decompress.
Once you leave, the numbness will fade over the next couple of hours. It's pretty common for your bite to feel a little different for a day or two as your mouth gets used to something new. Some mild soreness around the gum right after is normal too. If your bite still feels off after a few days, just give us a call. A small adjustment is usually all it takes.
Have a meal before you come in. Your mouth will be numb for a few hours after the appointment, so eating beforehand makes the day a lot easier. If dental visits make you nervous, please tell us when you call to book. We would much rather know ahead of time so we can plan around your comfort.
Once you're home, give the numbness time to fully wear off before you eat. It's easy to accidentally bite your cheek or tongue when you can't feel much. When you do eat, keep it soft for the rest of the day. Things like caramel, hard candy, nuts, and ice are worth skipping for now.
Take care of your crown the same way you would any other tooth. Brush it, floss it, and keep up with your regular checkups. The ceramic itself cannot get a cavity, but the natural tooth underneath still can, especially right at the gumline where the crown meets the tooth. That is the area we keep a close eye on at your visits.
The cost of a crown isn't one-size-fits-all. It depends on which tooth needs it and what we find when we take a look. We'll go over the exact numbers with you after the exam, before any treatment starts, so you can make a decision without any surprises.
The good news on insurance: most plans cover a same-day crown the same way they'd cover a traditional one, because the end result is the same: a permanent crown on your tooth. Our front desk team will walk you through your benefits, explain where your deductible and annual maximum stand, and talk through payment options for whatever's left. You shouldn't have to figure any of that out on your own.

Dr. Cromwell built this practice from scratch in 2011 with one goal: care that feels personal, unhurried, and honest. Here is what that looks like day to day.
With regular brushing, flossing, and checkups, a ceramic crown can last many years. The material handles everyday chewing well. The most common threats to its lifespan are grinding, accidental injury, and decay at the gumline where the crown meets the tooth, something we monitor at every routine visit.
For most patients, yes. The ceramic blocks used in CEREC crowns are engineered for chewing forces, and the digital scan produces a more precise fit than a traditional putty impression. In cases involving very heavy grinding or complex bite patterns, a lab-made crown may still be the better option.
Most likely not. All-ceramic crowns reflect light the way natural enamel does, and there is no metal substructure to create a dark line at the gumline over time. The shade is matched to your surrounding teeth chairside, so the result blends in from day one.
Not during the procedure. The tooth is fully numbed before any work begins. Afterward, mild gum soreness for a day or two is normal and typically resolves with over-the-counter pain relievers.
Bring it with you if you have it. Depending on the condition of the existing crown and the tooth underneath, we may be able to re-bond it. If the crown is damaged or the tooth has changed, we can often scan and mill a replacement the same day.
Yes, in most cases. After a root canal, the tooth becomes more brittle and needs a crown to handle chewing without cracking. Having it placed the same day means the tooth is fully protected before you leave, with no temporary crown and no second appointment.
If a sore, cracked, or damaged tooth has been sitting in the back of your mind, you don't have to keep waiting on it. Come in, we'll take a look, walk you through exactly what we see, and lay out your options. No pressure, just a clear picture so you can decide what feels right for you.
